The Day of the Dead Celebrations in Ajijic

Last night was trick or treat night for the children.

Marigolds and a read flower. I don't know what kind of red flower. I didn't look closely enough to see what kind.

Two altars for the Day of the Dead. Photos are put at the top of the altar of the dead loved one or ones. Marigolds are put on and around the altar, also candles and food that the dead person liked and some of the dead person's favorite things.

  1. cool, thanks for sharing...
was the alter in a public park? will there be more set up in the plazas or other locations?

it's interesting the moon photo you took was the same moon I looked at reverently last night...something about it being a 'halloween moon', with passing clouds, and so, so bright and clear in between the clouds.

lots of trick or treaters there? here in north Portland we had.. TWO! I looked down the street and no one on my block had a porch light on. Guess everyone's on a 'fixed' income... now I have to eat all those Almond Joys!

  2. Hi nopogayle, One of those altars was in a restaurant and the other was in a woman's yard. Her yard is like a park. There were many children out trick or treating, packs of them roaming the streets. I am going into Chapala this afternoon. They close down one street and altars are out at every house. Many people walk that street in the evening. I will take lots of photos and post some. Patricia
