Boy in the Window

This little boy was sitting in the window not far from the bakery. I was hoping to get him to smile but he was in a serious mood. No smiling.

The Hidden Bakery

This afternoon I was shown this bakery. It is hidden in a side alley not far from the carretera and Colon. The bakery products were delicious.  I didn't know this place existed and the person who showed it to me has only lived here a few weeks. I love finding new places. I get too stuck in my ways. I guess it takes new blood to point out other options.

Another Visit to the El Dorado

This afternoon I went to the El Dorado again with a friend. He had a business appointment.  I waited by the pool, all the time wishing I had my swimming suit with me. I had no idea we were going to stop by there today.  It is fun to see how the other half lives.   I either appreciate it vicariously or else I envy them and envy isn't a pretty emotion. So I appreciated their pleasure in the pool today and the fact that they can afford to live in such luxury. Life is good. Better for some than others. Money isn't everything but is sure makes life easier.

A Day Spent at Home

I was sick again this morning so I spent the day just sitting around in my yard with Chico. I finished reading a book titled Kaffier Boy, The True Story of A Black Youth's coming of Age in Apartheid South Africa, by Mark Mathabane. If that wasn't depressing enough, in the evening I made the mistake of watching the DVD Midnight Express. What a dark movie. Had to take a little walk to the lake to try to get all those the awful images out of my head.  It is shocking how many ways people can think of to be cruel to each other.  I may have some nightmares tonight.

Not a good idea if you are sick and feeling depressed to read a book about growing up in a Black Ghetto in South Africa during Apartheid and then finish it off with a movie about being in a prison in Turkey for years and years.   WHAT WAS I THINKING???  (By the way, that black spot in the photo is a bird flying around. I saw some birds this evening but not many.)
