Above is a photo of Flossie. She is in her back yard.
Loretta and Flossie had a long conversation about Flossie's huge garden. It goes all the way back to the lake. Flossie has planted many beautiful flowers and she obviously loves her plants and hummingbirds. She knows each bird by sight. It costs her a small fortune to buy all the sugar they need for their food so she asks for a small donation when you visit.
Have you ever tried to photograph hummingbirds in flight? It isn't easy but there were so many I couldn't help but get a few of them.
Above is a list of the hummingbirds that come to Flossie's house. It is a little paradise behind her gate. She allows people to ring her door bell and come in and sit by the hummingbird feeders. Her place is a block off Colon. I will write down the other information the next time I am by there. I was so enthralled by the hummingbirds that I forgot to get the essential information today.
Hi Patricia, You finally!!! made it to see the birds, I knew you would like it, Billy and I will go again when we arrive 3 more weeks !!!
ReplyDeleteWe band hummingbirds twice a year up in Ola. A "hummer" bander from the Hummingbird Society, he's from back East, comes and we catch the little things, put bands on them then document them to see where they migrate from and which ones come back every year. Each band has a number and that is recorded. He travels all over the country doing this. Check out www.olacommunitynewsletter.com archive for 2009-June. Great pics and the sunsets are fantastic.

The hummingbirds almost seem to enjoy the human company. Its like they put a little "show" for all to see. And Flossie, WOW, what a wonderful person for all the work she does for the birds. And what a character. too. I'm sure we'll be regulars. Until then, Patricia bye for now

HI Kim, It must be hard to catch a hummingbird and tag it. You would have to be very delicate and have much patience. But it sounds like it would be very interesting. Thank you for that information. Patricia
ReplyDeleteHI Billy, Yes, we can go together and take photos. Thank you so much for telling me about Flossies. See you soon. Your friend, Patricia
