A couple of days ago I took a trip with my friend Stacey to Jocotopec. She was interested in buying some flowers. We went to a beautiful nursery on the main road. It is on the left side of the street just before getting into Jocotopec. The prices were very reasonable too.

ReplyDeletethose flowers are so beautiful! i was always amazed at how inexpensive plants are in mexico. when i was in chacala i bought a beautiful, rather large gardenia for about $2.00. that is one of my favorite flowers, i love its scent.

ReplyDeleteI was AT that nursery in October. I loved checking out the plants, the prices & learning the Spanish names of things. It's right near the entrance to the Jocotopec pier, yes? I remember talking to a really nice man selling what I THINK were dried yams. He offered me some to taste, but I chickened out (luckily the bus came by right at that time!). He kept saying how 'tasty' it was, but I wasn't quite sure it wasn't some sort of dried, aged pork thingy! Anyway, the nursery was lovely & I wished I had a place to buy something to plant & care for. Come to think of it, I should have purchased something lovely for you to care for?! Next time, I guess... I will check out Steve's blog, too. Always looking for some new place to explore in Mexico - I don't know that I've heard of Chacala before! Love from Portland

ReplyDeletePatricia, unless my eyes deceived me ... and they could very well have ... i think the vivero you went to is in San Juan Cosala, not Joco. i live in Joco just down the street from the vivero that Gayle mentions, but the sign in your first photo about tree service is on the vivero in San Juan Cosala. it's my favorite of all the viveros here, although the one down the street from me is nice, too.
