My Life in Ajijic

The high season is beginning here. People are coming for the winter and prices are going up, especially for short term rentals. It is still the rainy season. But it doesn't rain as often during the day. I noticed that my electricity had gone off during the night last night because I had to reprogram my microwave. When I used it I realized we were in a brown out. I turned it off and unplugged it and the refrigerator.

It is very cool in the mornings and evenings. Nice. And sometimes in the mid afternoons it can get hot and humid. Then I go swimming.  I am enjoying this weather. I got a load of wood yesterday and had my first fire last night. It took me about an hour to get it to light. It is mesquite and has been cured for a year. When it finally took off it was great. I love to have a fire at night. It makes a room feel so comfortable. Earth, Air, Fire, Water. I am close to all these elements here and that helps to center me. Staring into a fire for me is many times more fulfilling than staring into a television set. I don't have a television. Or a radio. Or a telephone, except a cell phone for emergencies. I also don't have a car and I recently gave my bicycle away. I figured that since I hadn't ridden it for two years, I wasn't going to ride it again. I was too nervous about falling down and hurting my already damaged body.

There are so many things to do now and people to meet. Friends are returning and asking me out to lunches and dinners. Tonight I am going to La Bodega for some dancing with a group of friends. A long time friend from San Blas is arriving this Sunday to stay with me for a few days. I haven't seen her for many months and we have a lot to talk about. She is building a house in San Blas and after it is completed I will go there and spend some time with her. I love the beach there. It is about a mile and a half long. Perfect for a run. I haven't been there for over four years. I would like to see some friends, especially Pedro. He is the waiter at his family's restaurant, Wala Wala. He used to sing to me and play his guitar during slow times at the restaurant. Pedro, I miss you.

There are so many things to do here now that the problem is only which ones to choose. What a life! Full of activity and happy, vibrant people. The Mexicans and the foreigners, all have interesting events happening day and night.......  The two photos express feelings inside of me. The beautiful, expansive woman expresses my feminine side and love which sometimes wells up from my heart for everything here. The little girl with her questioning look and her vulnerability is how I also feel. I frequently ask the question----HOW DID I GET HERE? AND HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY?

Okay, I know how I got here physically. All I had to do was pay the money and hop on a plane. But it takes a shift from the inside, something within the soul to make that leap of faith. Also maybe a lot of heartache and disappointment mixed in with dissatisfaction of the fast paced, isolating culture NOB.......
