Morning Thoughts--Real Estate is NOT My Business

Today I found out that the cute little house I put on my blog a few posts back was listed with an agency. If you are interested in it, please go to Accesslakechapala.com and put in listing number 14544. The rent is now 800 dollars a month and the furniture was all taken out.

I had recommended this place to several people and now it is more expensive and unfurnished. After this experience, I have made some new rules for myself. The first rule is not to put any more places for rent on my blog.

The second rule is not to agree to help people find rentals. I realized, once again, after this experience that it is a losing proposition for me. I am NOT in the real estate business. I do not make anything from putting on places for rent or helping people find places. ( I know, I have written this before after being very frustrated. But then I forget and try again to help people. But hopefully this time I will stick with my new rules.)

What actually happens is that people start contacting me, asking me to go look at places for them, or to recommend places for them. I get caught up in it and I waste my time walking all over town.  Then people get mad at me for not finding them a place to live..... (I  don't even have a car, or a phone) Or they don't like what I found for them. People get paid big bucks to do this kind of work. I am retired. I have a different life and one that I need to get on with, for myself.....

I hope my readers will understand.   It is for my own health and peace of mind that I have to bow out of this kind of stuff. If you are looking for a rental, there are agencies in town. One is Accesslakechapala.com  They have nice video tours of places for rent. Check it out.

Rentals will no longer show up on this blog and I will no longer recommend any places..... This is not my business and I am glad to finally forget about it.  I could never be a real estate agent. Too stressful! I am going to spend my free time swimming at the San Juan Cosala Spa instead......

    1. Hi P. I am glad you understand. I hope everyone who reads this will too. It is just too frustrating for me. Thanks for writing. P

  2. So was the price raised (and furniture taken out) BECAUSE of the exposure on your blog? If so, I hope the place is still sitting empty next year at this time. errr...

    1. Hi Tammy, No it had nothing to do with my blog. The owner just gave the property to a rental agent. And that is what they do. Raise the rent. P

  3. You are right! Unfortunately, you think you are helping people out and then find out that they are treating you their agent, though they have paid you nothing. You did make the right decision. We are arriving in Chapala tomorrow. Hope to run into you at LCS.

    1. Hi Pat Walker, There are many of us but it is always nice to run into another one. Thanks for the encouraging words. Guess I was a little discouraged yesterday. Thanks. Pat Walker

  5. There is a lady in Playa del Carmen that charges $75 to find rentals for people - think she is called Elizabeth and she usually works for budget people who want to pay 300-500 and are not too fussy. I think you could do the same, it is too much to ask to do it for free. Claire, Normal, IL.

    1. Thank you for that information but without a car, it would be too difficult for me to find rentals for people. But good idea. P
