Morning Thoughts--Possibly Moving

It is still very hot here now. I  have been having water problems at my casita. The pump isn't working. But the workmen have been here on and off for several days, trying to get it to working properly.

I may have to move. The man who lives in the main house may have to move back to Canada. I can't afford to rent this entire place.

If he does move, he may give me Chico. That is a huge added responsibility for me, especially in finding another place to live. I have a lead on an apartment in town. That might be interesting since I never go out at night.  I would feel safe going out at night there because it is just a block from the plaza.

I am not good with change. Especially since I have been very happy in my little casita for six or seven years. I have lost count.  I must have had some inkling that moving was going to be in my future when I bought all this furniture.

I was thinking this morning that I have become too complacent. Things have been too easy for me. Life is giving me a kick in the butt.....  But what terrible timing. I am leaving for Portland on June 6th for seven weeks.  I must have faith that this is all going to work out for the best......

  1. Pat, yes, all will work out for the best--and you'll have Chico. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a place for you and him!

  2. Change can be a good thing and it will all work out for the best.

However, the timing could be better with you having an extended trip planned. Did your landlord give you any idea when he may be moving back to Canada?

  3. Hello Patricia,
I haven't read on your blog for some time and I am back to it, love it by the way. I'm now planning a trip to your area and my question to you is, has that crime wave that was going on in 2012 gotten better? At that time you were thinking of moving, obviously you are still there, but are you now relaxed about things or still have some anxiety.
Thanks for you input on this as I'm a single woman also and will be traveling on my own.
    Take Care,
    Linda

    1. Hi Linda, Thank you for writing and for your compliment on my blog. I don't worry so much now about the crime. Nothing as bad has happened lately. One reason I am thinking of moving into town is so I can walk out at night. I don't feel safe doing that in my isolated neighborhood. When you come down, let's meet. P

    2. Hi - For Linda, and anyone else wondering about safety, when I stayed very near you, Patricia, I was not comfortable coming home at night - even though my husband was with me. There are too many blocks that we walked on, where no one was out. We have stayed in other rental houses that maybe weren't particularly close to the plaza - but the difference was we walked through family-neighborhoods where people were out on their front steps at night. People would speak when we walked by and recognized us as staying in the neighborhood. Your neighborhood and the streets to get there have bigger houses with walls around them. No one is out on their stoop at night -which makes all the difference.

  4. Hi Pat:

It will all work out and all the worry will not change anything.
    I like this saying,
"You cannot change the direction of the wind but you can adjust your sails."
I think this will be a good move for you. P>

  5. Hi Patricia...I can understand why you are worried, but as your other fans have said, things usually work out fine.
If you move, maybe that's where your new furniture will fit! :)

  6. I just got back from Ajijic. I didn't have much time and would have liked to at least had coffee with you.

Why don't you rent the whole place if your landlord leaves and rent out one of the places like he does. It might be lucrative for you to be the landlord and you could put a few pesos in your pocket. Especially since it is in one of the nicer areas.

    1. Hi Jennilynn, Sorry we didn't get a chance to get together. I have thought of that idea. But now my landlord is coming home. I like not having a lot of responsibility. I am happy just paying rent. P

  7. Patricia,
Your blog delivers so much joy to me and I'm certain to other readers, too. Things may work out better than imagined. Enjoy your time away and best of luck finding the perfect 'casa' on your return.

  8. Would renting a room be a possibility? I understand you'd have to give up some of your freedom, but it would be cheaper, and another person to rely on in times of need. Just a thought.

  9. Hi Keith, Thanks for writing. I am not going to make any changes until I return from Portland. I will be gone seven weeks. Maybe the water will be fixed here by then. P

  10. Hey, Pat.
I'm like you sometimes, change makes me uneasy. But for me, the big differentiator is, Did I initiate the change, or was it imposed on me? If you're like me, when you initiate change yourself, it doesn't upset you. So maybe if you could change your mindset, and convince yourself that this change is your idea, it won't bother you so much.

    1. Hi Jim, Thank you for that thoughtful advice. It makes a lot of sense. I am back at my casita for now and I have water for now.... I leave for Portland next week. Maybe the water problem will be solved before I come back. P

  11. Hi Patricia,
I am coming to Ajijic in October in anticipation of a move there in winter. I have been reading your blog and appreciate your concerns. I noticed that one poster suggested that you rent the larger house and become the manager. If you don't want to do that, perhaps I could. I speak spanish and have construction experience from the Dominican Republic. I would enjoy the challenge. Perhaps some of your other readers would like to share the (ad-venture Would you be willing to refer me to your landlord?
Also anyone who likes the idea of renting a larger house and letting out some of the rooms, please let me know. Thanks' Tanga tanganika10@yahoo.com

ps I will be visiting my grown kids in Portland from Aug 1 to 16th. Will you still be there? It might be fun to meetup.
