A Day Trip to Sayula

My friend Dale took me in his car to the town of Sayula. It is about 60 miles south of here. It took us  an hour and a half and the scenery was spectacular with clouds over the mountains and green fields. Sayula is a beautiful little town. During the time that we were visiting, I didn't encounter another expat.

There are a couple of upscale hotel/spas. They do massages and have steam rooms and pools. We went to see the famous knife factory. Ojeda knives have been in business since 1810. These are world famous knives. Some of the knives take an entire month to make. They let us visit the factory. What a treat.

Then we had lunch at one of the nice hotels and came back. We were home by four in the afternoon. You can get there by bus but it takes much longer. From here, you have to take the bus to Guadalajara and leave from the old bus station. But if you want a two day trip, that extra time spent on the bus wouldn't matter much. I really enjoyed getting out of my daily routines. I get stuck in ruts too easily. I hope to make more day trips soon, now that my ankle allows me to get around more.

  4. Very nice...looks and sounds like a great day! I love the pictures. May I use the plaza pictures to show my Spanish classes what a "plaza" is?

  6. Gracias, Patricia...to be honest I have shown a few of the parade ones in class before! The students especially love to see them and signs written in Spanish that they can understand.

    Thank you so much.

  7. Hi Karen, As is already said to you, I am very flattered that you are showing my photos to your class. Have you shown them my you tube videos? My son is playing his music in the background. I have one of Guadalajara and two of this area on it.... Thank you. Patricia

  8. I need to get to Salula from Ajijic soon, why can't I go on the bus any other way rather than through Guad?

  9. Thank you for writing. You will have to take that up with the bus station. There is no direct route from here to there. Even in a car, you have to back track many miles instead of just driving directly there. Sorry. P
