Yesterday I took the bus out to the spa. I didn't take my camera. Since there is no way to lock up my things, I didn't want to risk someone taking it. They are now charging expats 120 pesos a visit with the DIF card. It was 80 pesos a visit. They raised the price on us. The Mexicans with a DIF card are now paying 90 pesos a visit. It is possible to still get in for 80 pesos a visit by buying a ticket booklet. But it is 20 tickets. They are no good on week ends or holidays and they have to be used within four months of buying them. I keep putting it off. Seems like a big purchase when I am not sure I will use them that quickly.
It was a beautiful morning. I love going there. They are fixing the tiles on the main swimming pool and it was closed. The big pool at the entrance is open. It wasn't very crowded in the morning. It starts getting crowded around eleven thirty in the morning. After about two and a half hours I am ready to leave. If I stay much longer I am too tired to walk back to the bus stop. The spa is just a block from the bus stop. There is a huge sign. It is hard to miss. I always like to go when it opens at nine, otherwise it gets too crowded for me to do laps. I feel so lucky to be living this close to the hot springs. I am sorry they raised the price on us expats.
What is a DIF card? Is it helpful to have in other ways in saving money? Thanks
ReplyDeletehi Michael, Thanks for writing. A DIF card is for seniors. I don't remember how old you have to be to get it, maybe 62. It is good for a lot of things. I wrote an article about it on Accesslakechapalalcom.... You can ride the buses half price with it too. Patricia
ReplyDeleteWhen we went, the price was 180 pesos and we had a 20% off coupon which brought the price down a bit. Wanted to soak in the adult area, but it was being renovated. The other area was so crowded with kids (it was not a weekend or holiday) that we asked for a refund, which they eventually gave us. I'm not sure I'd go back. I don't like the idea of not being able to lock up belongings.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna, Yes, that is the regular price with no discount. There are locker rooms but I haven't investigated. Maybe if you bring your own lock, you can use them. I will find out when I go back. I know how you feel about not being able to lock up your things. I have the same unease.... Thanks for writing. P
DeleteHi Pat
ReplyDeleteI am here in Mexico right now, visiting
My fam and I are staying in Chapala and I remember a couple of years ago that we went to the Natrual Springs Pools? Don't remember the name of it, but it's west down the Caratera past Ajijic. Someone said perhaps in San Juan Cosala?Do you know the name of it and what town it is in? It has a big pool with a tube slide and diving board as you walk in, and to the left is a hot tub as I'd call it about 100+ degrees and an underground sauna. I'd like to take a taxi, but need to explain it better. Would appreciate the help. Janet
Hi Janet, Thanks for writing. Yes, it is the same hot springs I wrote about. Also check Accesslakechapala.com I wrote an article about it on that site. I am using my middle name there, Evelyn. It is in San Juan Cosala. There is a huge sign over the road saying Agua Thermals.... Can't miss it. Is right on the lake. Beautiful but it is going to be very crowded these next two weeks.Opens at nine. go early.... p

ReplyDeleteJust tell the taxi driver that you want to go to the agua thermal. It is in San Juan Cosala. The driver will know. You pass all the restaurants along the water and then you will see a huge sign over the road saying Agua Thermal...... Turn left. You are there. Have fun.... P
