Some photos of the Fat Tuesday Parade

Above are two of the Escaramuza riders. They are trick riders. Wonderful to watch. 

Another one. I think they had a performance at the soccer field after the parade. I was too tired to go to it.

I took a lot of photos of the people watching the parade. I asked the mother if I could take their photo and she said yes but just as I snapped it, she hid behind her children. Under that black plastic bag.

The entire parade route was covered in flour. They were throwing it everywhere.

Sunday street food at the Ajijic plaza

This was the best street food I have ever had in Ajijic. It was very crowded. Everyone knows good cooking. But it was worth the wait.

I had a green drink. I think it had mint in it. I don't know what else. There were also chunks of fresh pineapple.

I hope this stand is open again next Sunday. Well worth a walk to the plaza. Chico liked it too. Those handmade tortillas were delicious!

Morning Thoughts

It was a beautiful day yesterday. I walked to the plaza with Chico to take photos of a festival that was supposed to start at two in the afternoon. I arrived at one and they were just setting up the tables. They said it wouldn't start until six. I didn't feel like hanging out that long so we came back home. I got some photos of the plaza first. 

It was extremely crowded. Maybe because this is a three day weekend. Today, Monday, is a national holiday.

Lots of older people walk with the walking sticks in the above photo. The cobblestones here are treacherous.

That is NOT my hairy leg. It belongs to a man I was sitting next to and this was his first time in Ajijic. He said his rent ran out after three weeks and he had to find another place to stay for the last week he would be here. The only hotel he could find with any vacancies cost him two hundred dollars a night.... Things have really gotten expensive here. 

Many craft stalls were set up in the plaza yesterday.

The second man on the left is my neighbor. I often see him around town.

There were many children in the plaza. This group of Mexican children have been around for years. They travel together and often ask for money. 

Morning Thoughts

I haven't been writing much on my blog. Guess I am running out of steam. Nothing new to write about since I am getting over four days of being at home sick. And it has been very cold here, especially in the mornings and at night. Yesterday was warm and I felt well. I went to the spa and it was one of those spectacular and rare days with no one else in the pool and lots of sunshine.  Today is overcast and cold. I am going out in a taxi with a friend. Not looking forward to that because the traffic is horrendous, bumper to bumper from one end of town to the other. 

There is a celebration tomorrow afternoon in the Ajijic Plaza. I will go and try to get some pictures but there may be so many people that I won't be able to see anything. It has something to do with native food. 

I remember when I first came here, I always had my camera on my wrist. I have taken about twenty thousand photos of this area. So I am pretty much done with doing that. Maybe it is time to turn the blogging over to newcomers. People still in that what I call pink cloud of excitement about living here. To me, now it is just my home and I take everything for granted. How many times can a person take a picture of the same building or tree or plaza?  Twenty thousand times in my case. Happy Constitution Day.
