Morning Thoughts--the Rains

I took this photo from my deck right after I got up. The clouds have been beautiful recently. It is cool in the mornings and the air is damp. So damp that sometimes I feel like I just had a shower and hadn't dried off. I don't like that part of the rainy season. Usually in the afternoons, the sun drys everything off and it can get hot. Then in the evenings the rains start again. Interesting weather but it is hard to predict and make plans for doing things outdoors.

If you looked at my previous photos of the malecon, you would have seen that the lake is down a long ways. That is not good. We need the rain so I won't complain about it. But if I had a place in the States I would spend my summers up there. I prefer Portland in the summertime to here.

If half my living situation wasn't outside, that would make things easier. But I love the outdoor kitchen. I will put up with the rain and never cover that drain again. Otherwise I will have another flood. In retrospect, it was kind of funny, seeing someone standing at my door in eight inches of water. (Looking at the bright side, my tiles on the deck are very clean now.)

Flexible. That is a great word for living in Mexico. One must be flexible and go with the flow, even when the flow is a flood in one's kitchen.

  1. Pat you will be lucky if you don't get electrocuted or burn the place down. All it would take is a rain soaked power appliance or frayed electric cord and stepping onto the wet floor. Water and electicity do not mix.

    1. Thanks for the warning. All the cords are safe and off the floor. The frig is on a platform. I don't think there is any danger. But maybe you are right... It certainly wouldn't burn down as there is no wood. it is made out of cement. p

  2. Well I'd still be very cautious about the electrical issues with the rains and being outside that's for sure. Fire can be very damaging even though you have a cement structure don't kid yourself! Fire has a way of catching on things that you may not be aware of. I wouldn't want a kitchen outside myself because of mold, bugs, birds and critters all up in my stuff! I'd hate to take out a pot and find some critter inside it! Yucky! To each their own though. I stayed in a lovely place that was like a jungle treehouse in Soyalita, MX where the kitchen was really all open only there was a grass wood roof on it that was solidly built so never had any rain in the place. The bathrooms hallway to one of the bedrooms and one of the bathrooms and the kitchen area were all open to the outdoors with walls built only as dividers for privacy to the baths and the bedrooms were all enclosed with huge windows overlooking the beach/ocean. It was magical and felt just like living in an elaborate treehouse! I loved it! But the kitchen was ill equipped with only an old sink, a very small stove and old fridge. It had plenty of counter space made out of some bery pretty green tiles and the floors were all really nicely tiled throughout. The showers were like an outdoor shower it was fun. I could easily live in a place that, it was so relaxing and just magical!.

  3. Yes, it would be anyone's perfect vacation place because it was very well built but the price of the rental on that has gone way over what it was back then and it wasn't as cheap a price as what you have now. Believe me it wasn't all that cheap a rental at all! That area has become quite Americanized now unfortunately! Meaning the pricing has really jumped up for rentals there and everything else has jumped up in prices as well. I loved it back when I went because it felt like being in a typical rural Mexican beach town. It wasn't as popular or well known as it is now with very few English speaking people in the small quaint seaside village.

    1. Thanks for commenting. I agree, the prices here now are too high. I wish I knew of another place that was as nice but less expensive. p
