Update for IMSS rules

I went to renew my IMSS yesterday and found out a new rule. From now on, you can only apply if there are TWO people applying from the same address. Fortunately, since I was already in the system, they let me reapply. But from now on, you cannot apply for IMSS unless there are TWO of you....  Talk about discrimination against single people......

  1. Boy, Mexico is really making it harder on Expats with all these new rules in place! Guess it just means a single Expat would have to go with private insurance by the sounds of it. I'm happy for you that they allowed you to renew it since you were already in the system.

    1. Thanks for commenting. Yes, private insurance, which is very expensive, or pay out of pocket. p

  2. This is discouraging for singles. Is this specific to expats? I wonder why they don't just charge a higher rate.

    1. I don't know if it is just for singles or not. But today I was told that the expats are getting kicked off of the IMSS system in Chapala. They DID raise the rates too.... They are making it very difficult. p

    2. We have been on IMSS for 12 years, no problems, you always need to have a file opened and go for your monthly appointments.
No big deal!! Yes rates go up every year, as does everything else.

    3. Thank you for that news. Good to know. I just met a man who was on it for thirteen years and was kicked off for no reason. p
