Morning Thoughts--Murders in my neighborhood

I received an e mail from my friend Dale this morning about the two murders in my neighborhood over the weekend. This is bad news!  It was reported in the Guadalajara Reporter. I read it online but it is a very short article. I guess they don't know much yet. Except that an elderly Canadian couple had been badly beaten and murdered. Their home invaded and their two cars stolen. The gardener found the bodies in the garden in the morning.

This couple had only been down here six weeks. What a tragedy! I don't like to put negative things on my blog but this one can't be ignored.  It was in MY neighborhood.  I am in shocked that this happened!   I don't have any more information on it.  If you are interested, keep checking the Guadalajara Reporter online. I don't have anything else to say this morning. I am too depressed!

  2. Thanks for posting... they were friends of mine for many years visiting as snowbirds to Ajijic. They were so excited when they purchased their home in La Floresta about 10 months ago after searching for the perfect house for several years. .... lots of grieving today.

    1. Thank you for writing Georgina. I have been thinking about the couple all morning. I am so sad. I hope they will catch the murderers but that won't bring back your friends..... P

  3. Please, PLEASE, do apply all possible pressure on your consulate and embassy... perhaps this might force authorities to do something -Mexican citizens' protests do not seem to work, but an international scandal will probably be more effective...

  4. Hi Patricia
There was a brief news item about the murder on TV in London Ontario this morning, and I have seen the longer article in the Guadalajara Reporter by now. So sorry to hear about this.

  6. So sorry to hear this, Pat. Very sad. Is La Floresta a gated community? Does it have neighborhood security? Do neighborhood security patrols for private neighborhoods do any good?

    1. hi JimS. Well there are gates. And they are closing the one next to my house but the others are open and the fence here can easily be jumped over. There is private security but they drive around. They do not stand at the entrance. So, in other words, no security. p

  7. This is so sad and very upsetting to me. All the time they planned to make their move to Ajijic (like me). It's heart wrenching.

Take care, be extra cautious, and know that people all over the world are thinking of you and the good people there and praying for resolution to this terrible crime.

    Hugs and prayers,

  10. Mexico is not safe period. However, people will continue to flock there because it is very affordable to live there, and the climate is warm.
    The killings are horrific.

    1. Thank you for writing. I doubt if Mexico is any more unsafe than many places in the United States. But I appreciate you expressing your opinion. p

  11. After reading this I'm not so sure I would ever settle there....It's not about it being a violent high crime place, surely there is just as much crime if not more in the US in many of our major cities, it's that the police in Mexico are very shady and not being a Mexican native would make me nervous to live there trusting I am protected by the authorities. In the states when a murder happens most of the time the people get caught especially a crime like this one because there are officials here that just do a better job investigating. So this leaves me worried...it will pass as long as more crimes like this do NOT happen. If more murders do happen it's going to hurt their economy for tourism and folks moving in at some point. Mexico has got to get their act together better especially in light of how strict their rules are for foreigners moving there to live on a permanent basis..... Just my two cents for what its worth! 1. Hi Pam, Good to hear from you. The Mexicans worker HARDER when expats are hurt or killed because they realize that their economy totally relies on us.... There were 10 State trouper trucks here, all filled with policemen, looking for the murderers. I am sure they will find the other one..... p

    2. I appreciate your positive outlook and glad there were so many police after the fact but so dismayed that it ever could have happened in the first place. They need to install cameras in rental properties and gated communities, increase police on foot and have guards as well as gardners and house keepers when such a heinous crime took place. They must do something or it will definitely hurt their economy very soon. They can't wait until it's too late to resolve or ward off such evil doers! I'm so sorry for hte families! I can't imagine how they are coping with this....Pam

    3. Hi Pam, I wish they could afford to do all of that, but they can't. You must remember that this tragedy wasn't an impersonal thing. It happened because the woman was having problems with the two workmen who were working next door to her. They killed her and her husband. p
