Morning Thoughts--getting over a cold

I haven't written for a few days because I have been sick with a cold. I haven't been able to do much at all except sit in the sunshine and read.  For two days I read a book titled Blindness, written by Jose Saramago. That was grim, about everyone on the world going blind and how awful the world became and how terrible they treated the first people to go blind. How the first blind ones, stuck in an abandoned hospital, turned on each other and ended up murdering each other. Why did I keep on reading such a book when I was already stuck in my compound and depressed with a cold? Sometimes I don't think too clearly.

Now I am reading Affliction by one of my favorite writers, Russell Banks. It too is depressing. But this is all I have left in the house. I have read every other book here except the cookbooks. As soon as I am well, I need to make another trip to Cafe Magana to exchange books and videos. And start swimming again out at the spa. But I think it will be a few more days before this cold is that much better. Patience. I have none when I get depressed and lonely. I am lucky to have Chico and the kitty for company. And sometimes Tammy pops in and out with her little dog. It is great to have her living here too. She rode in the horse parade over the weekend.

From now until Easter, there will be a parade every weekend. This was one where people threw flour at each other. Fun but not good for cameras. It is an exciting time of year here. Lots of parades and parties and other special events. I hope to get well soon so I can be part of some of them.

  1. Hope you're starting to feel better! I can't read depressing books...I would get to the point where I couldn't turn the page...especially if there is violence.
Glad you have Chico and kitty for company! Find something fun to read.

  3. Pat, why are there parades at this time of year? Preparation for Easter? I"ll have to bring you some books next time I visit. We had another 8 inches of snow here in PA today. I don't think I can take it much longer. More snow expected tomorrow and then a bigger storm for the weekend. I hope I can get to Ajijic sooner rather than later. Re-reading Judy King's book and re-re-reading Karen Blue's book. It's miserable here.

    1. hi Lorrie, Yes, the parades are because of Easter. Sounds awful up there. Wish you were here instead. I enjoyed Karen Blue's book. Haven't read Judy King's yet. Thanks for writing. p
