Another Market day in Ajijic

Another market day has rolled around and instead of anticipating the pleasure of shopping, I am dreading it. Climbing over that fence with all my groceries and the grocery cart is not a pleasant thought. Or walking eight blocks around and dragging the cart back all those extra blocks.   With all these gates going up, I no longer feel free. I can not walk to the lake or walk along the shore to the Lake Chapala Society. I can't even walk across the street to visit with my friend, Leslie. I am very depressed by this new situation. Maybe it is time for me to move on.

  1. I feel so bad for you. Is there anyone in authority you can appeal to?

    1. Hi Pat, Thanks. Doubtful. This is Mexico....Money talks and I am not rich. The people living here are mostly rich.. They have the power. p

  2. Too bad Pat, I hope you can figure out something that works for you as moving is such an expense and hassle! On one hand I can understand people wanting more security after what happened to the couple living there, but the bottom line is break ins can still happen if someone is of a criminal mindset in the first place they'll figure a way around it. Can you get a car or work out some sort of carpool situation with your neighbors? How about a golf cart or getting a scooter?

    1. Thanks for commenting. Today I saw a motor scooter and thought about that. I will wait and see if they block off the fence too. As long as I can climb over the fence, I will stay here. Otherwise, I will most likely move. p

  3. I seem to have missed the reason for blocking the street for pedestrians. Sounds rather odd to me.

    1. Hi Steve, Thanks for writing. I think they are hoping that having the streets blocked will stop all the crime. Good luck with that. It just stops the people who have to walk from place to place.p

  4. Sorry to read about your frustrating situation. Hope some solution will come for you. I rather like the idea of a little scooter. Would you have to store one out of sight, or would locking work?

    1. Hi Nancy, That made me laugh. NO locking would NOT work. I would have to store it. But the problem is that I would have no place to leave it once I got to the main rode and wanted to catch the bus. I can't ride a scooter on the main road. P

  5. Yes, it wouldn't be safe to ride on a scooter on teh main streets for sure. It would merely be good for tooling around town. I think a golf cart would be pretty cool to have instead as you can really load up stuff on those as opposed to a scooter.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. Right a golf cart would be better but they are expensive. And I need the exercise. p
