Morning Thoughts

I am too sick to think clearly. Have had a bad cough since Wednesday. If I am not better by Monday, I will see the doctor. I hate to go because they so readily give out antibiotics. I don't like antibiotics. They mess up my stomach. So it is a waiting game at the moment. Lots of time in bed and watching netflix.  Everyone I know here is sick with some kind of cough, cold, chills, fever, etc. It must be going around town.

We had a couple of cold days. My friend said that it rained but I was too sick to check out the window. Chico has been in bed next to me. He is a comfort. I had big plans to go to a St. Patrick's Day celebration at El Barco. It is a local bar. It is a singles event but anyone can come. Cost is 150 pesos for corned beef and cabbage. I like that but it isn't on my diet these days. I am sure the bar will be filled with single women and a handful of single men. They may even have a live band. Good thing that women here don't mind dancing together.

My great grandma was Irish. She and her sister came over on a boat with their names pinned to their dresses. The parents were so poor that they couldn't all come over at once so they came first and then started sending for the children. I think there were twelve children. I read Angela's Ashes once and was deeply impressed. At that time I had no inkling of my family's past. I was most likely reading their story too. He wrote it just for his children, so they would understand what his life was like in Ireland and it won the Pulitzer prize. I thank Frank McCourt for his honesty and willingness to show his vulnerability. It is a gift to the world.  Well, I am back to bed.

  1. Hope you feel better soon, Pat. Angela's Ashes was a great book. Frank's brother Malachy (not sure it's spelled right) wrote one called 'Tis which is also great and a think also another one the name of which I can't remember. Did you watch the movie "Angela's Ashes"? It's good.

    1. Hi Lorrie, thanks for writing. Yes I did see the movie but it was a long time ago. Maybe it is time to see it again. I will see if his brother's books are in the LCS library. I read all of Frank's books. P

  2. Sorry you are so sick, Patricia. It sounds like more than a cold if you were too sick to look out the window! Could it be the flu? It sounds like what I had when I was sick at Christmas...and I'm pretty sure that was flu! Take care, and see the doctor if you don't start getting better soon...

  3. Dear Pat,

Never commented here before, but have enjoyed your post and photos. Thank you for that.

Reading about your illness this morning just forced me to say just one thing, even though it usually proves futile. People just cannot believe it, because the medical industry spends a lot of effort to "debunk" this advice.

But it is absolutely true, without question, that in doses high enough, good old vitamin c is the BEST antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal ever synthesized by man (via copying the substance nature).

Researchers believe that it was some kind of evolutionary trade-off that humans have lost the ability to produce their own vitamin c. Most other species (with the exception of guinea pigs and a couple others) do produce their own, and the quantity they make sky-rockets when they begin to become ill. They make IMMENSE amounts, which then fall back to whatever is normal for that species when the illness subsides.

If you read the actual "studies" that "prove" C is worthless for doing what I am telling you it can do, you will see they used tiny doses, like 200-400 mg. What I am talking about is on the order of 2000 mg, each hour while awake, at the first sign of illness coming on.

There is much to know about using vitamin c, and I'mnot going to write a book here, but urge you to look into it by googling Vitamin C Foundation or (a favorite of mine) http://www.doctoryourself.com, or look up the work of Frederick Klenner, M.D. of 50 years ago. For fun, also see: http://www.3news.co.nz/Living-Proof/tabid/371/articleID/171328/Default.aspx

I'm 63 and, while I do know all about living a healthy lifestyle, I often don't practice what I preach. Nonetheless, I have not seen a doctor for 21 years, and only then, for the birth of my daughter. I have encountered the first signs of an illness, but I take thousands of grams of C at that point, and by the next morning, it's history. When not ill, I take 9000 mg per day.

Hoping you feel better very soon,

  4. Hi, Pat.

I agree with Mary. I have been taking extra Vitamin C for long times and haven't had a cold in many years!

Hope, you feel better soon. Angela's Ashes is great read for sure.
    Have a great St.Patrick day.

    Take care, Min.
