Chili Cook Off part 2

Chilli Cook Off

Morning Thoughts

Chili Cook Off Crowd
It is Sunday morning and I am too tired from the Chili Cook Off to do anything except sit in front of the computer. I love to go to the Chili Cook Off but it exhausts me. When I am around crowds, I quickly become overstimulated and that tires me out. I took a lot of photos and will put them on when I am not so tired. Think I will spend part of today cooking. Right now I am cooking a pot of beans.

Sometimes when I have nothing else to do, I look through my spam folder on my e mail account. Some of them are funny. This morning I saw the heading, Public Complaint Department. Unfortunately, I had already pushed the delete button. I wonder what that was all about.  I have a lot of complaints that I would like to register on the Public Complaint Department.

Or I keep getting one about Your Arrest Record.... I had no idea I had ever been arrested but apparently the sender was hoping that I had. Of course there are all the ones about satisfying your woman.   Or pick up your winning lottery money. One that caught my eye yesterday was titled, See what someone is saying about you on another site.  That one tapped into my paranoia for a brief flash. Then I realized that no one was interested enough to gossip about me online. Maybe my ex husband but he is too busy worrying about his own life to write about mine.

Once I (almost) got caught into sending money to an e mail address that said, I am your friend Becky Thornton.  I am stuck in Belize with no money. Someone stole my purse. Please help me.  Send money.

I didn't do it after I thought about it for a moment and realized that my friend Becky is a recluse and lives in Texas and would never be in Belize.  She doesn't even own a purse, because she doesn't leave her house, and she could never afford to take a trip to Belize or anywhere else. She doesn't like to take a trip past her driveway. She also hates beaches.  I have no idea of how they got my friend Becky's name. Probably hacked into my address book.

It can be scary on the Internet. People want things. Mostly they want your information or if they can't get that, they will settle for your money.  Information is far more valuable because then they can tap into your accounts and get ALL your money.

They seem to feed off of our fears. Or else our longings. A new one that has been coming to my spam says something like, My husband isn't home, I am horny.  Like I care. I don't have a husband. I am horny too but I don't get on the Internet and advertise it.  Or maybe I just did.

It is a new and interesting world from the one I knew growing up. Far more exciting and dangerous. It requires constant vigilance. (When I was growing up, my biggest fears were the monster living under my bed and the man living next door. My mother said that he was a child abuser. I didn't know what that meant but from her expression, I knew that it was something very bad.) No wonder people these days are so distrustful. One slip on the computer and you have given your identity and savings away.

Maybe I should stop looking into my spam file, even though it is so entertaining. I guess I will just stick to cooking my beans instead.  Do you have any favorite spams to share?
