My morning at the hot springs pool

I arrived at the pool this morning at ten forty five. It was cold. The workers were walking around in their jackets, scarves and hats but the water was hot. Nice. I love having the pool to myself. I feel like I am a millionaire, without all the problems of maintaining a pool. Just swim, rest and go home.

It is rarely empty here. I guess the cold air kept everyone away but look at the next photo. I took it after doing my laps. I swim for an hour.

The pool at eleven forty five. The temperature of the air can go up by ten degrees between ten forty five and eleven forty five. But it was still cool in the shade. Because we are at about five thousand feet above sea level, the air is thin and that makes a big difference between being in the sun or the shade. Maybe that is also why the temperature rises so quickly. If you want to do laps, best to get there early, before the crowds arrive. The price of admission just went up.  It goes up twenty pesos at the beginning of every year. Now it is 280 pesos for an adult and 140 pesos for a child. It is not cheap, especially for big families. I guess that is why they have an ATM machine at the entrance and one inside.

    1. Haha, no. Our river is considered dangerous to swim in during nice weather. So I have always avoided it, but almost every year there is at least one drowning. It is beautiful, though.
Enjoy your sunshine and pool...snow tonight here??!!

    1. unfortunately, yes, per visit. I buy twenty tickets for 2800 pesos. They have to be used within four months or they expire. I cannot share them with anyone else and I cannot use them on weekends or holidays. So i pay a little less per visit. But I have the pressure to use them all within four months. Over Christmas for three weeks it was always too crowded for me to do laps and then I was sick. P

    2. Wow that does seem high. 2800 divided by 20=140 per visit converts to about $7.50 per visit. I was just looking at a place in New Mexico that sells a punch card for 12 visits for $22.50 or $1.88 a visit! But your health and well-being is probably worth it. Wish I could be there. I love your little garden. It has been in the mid twenties at night here in north Florida. There is no public pool within 60 miles.

    3. Hi Fran, thanks for writing. Yes the owners of the spa must be very wealthy. I live in an inexpensive rental so I can afford to swim there. Sounds too cold to swim in your area, even if there were a pool available. P

  4. Patricia, if you ever decide to give up Mexico. I can tell you about a place you might love. I think it is the cheapest nice place to live. You would have to invest between $27,000- $100,000. Depending on the size and age of he mobile home you would decide to buy. This is a very nice 55+ Gated community. We have a LARGE Heated Swimming pool and 2 hot tubs, a huge community Rec center, with lots of activities, Library, Wood Shop, Pool hall, Activity Room (quilting/karioki/card making/!!all kinds of games/etc) , Exercise Room/Laundrymat. Shuffle Board/ Golf Driving net/Horse Shoe Court/ + more. All of this is NICE (not fancy). Our cost per year right now is $600 per year HOA dues and $340 Yearly Taxes, our Insurance for the Mobile and contents is about $1,000 a year. You have small yards, some rocked, some concrete and some grass like ours. This adds up to $161.00 A MONTH !!! They did vote to raise the HOA $15 a month, beginning Jan 2019. This is the first increase in a long time. We have been here 9 years and it is our first increase. We file as homeowners for our taxes and it is really cheap. Where can you live for $161. a month and feel safe? You can walk to a huge Super HEB and lot of shopping/restaurants. There are buses but I don't know anything about the schedules.about them. This is Pharr Texas. Right by McAllen. I have never felt afraid here. With your Medicare, you could stay healthy. Just something to think about. I was shocked to hear how much you spend daily, to swim.

    1. hi macmember,

did you include the space rental in this summary? In my area (sierra calif foothills) the average space is 500- monthly and much higher I assume it would be more like 200 or 300 a month there?

  6. ANONYMOUS.... sorry, I just saw your post. No, there is no space rental. You own your mobile and the lot. That is why I was telling Pat, this is a great place to live. You can always find something in the $30K and some time down to $25, with "offers". There are some units asking $110K, even tho they will never sell for that much. They are large newer or completely renovated units. If anyone needs to come back to the US, to use their Medicare, this is a really inexpensive place to live. Also, in other towns, you have a problem finding Drs that accept Medicare. I don't know of anyone here, that does not accept Medicare. Personally, I try to go to Dallas or Houston, to specialists, even tho, I would not have to. All of the figures, I gave, were accurate.
