Morning Thoughts---The Kitchen Island Ending

The kitchen island problem has finally been resolved. On Friday, my favorite Veracruz Fish special day at the Legion, I went to the consignment store and told them that I would go ahead and take it. They had a buyer but she had only put down a deposit and wasn't going to pay the rest for three more weeks. By then I would be in the States and I wanted this resolved one way or another before leaving.

My friend, Alex, took me in his truck and said he would help bring it back to my place. In a way I was looking forward to having yet another piece of furniture in my two room casita. Like I said, I am on my way to becoming a furniture hoarder.

We stopped by the place before going to lunch and I told them that I would return in an hour for the kitchen island. When I got back there, the woman was standing on the sidewalk. She said she wanted it as a gift for her brother and she quickly handed the money over to the salesman and he handed it to me.

All was resolved. (He must have called her and said that if she wanted it, she had to bring the money immediately.)  Except that I was a little disappointed not to be taking it home. I know, crazy stuff. I could just see myself tripping over it all day long and cursing myself for buying it. So it all worked out in the end for everyone. If I ever mention thinking of buying any more furniture, please remind me to JUST SAY NO......

  1. i'm suprised that the shop owner was willing to sell it out from under the woman who had clearly layed it away and made arraingments with first payment. and why would you get involved in it knowing this? is there no code of integrity...

    1. I am so sorry. You misunderstood the situation. I owned it. He did not ask me if he could take payments on it and wait three weeks. Since I was leaving in two weeks I needed to take care of the situation. I wanted it sold completely or I would take it home. I knew in all that time, knocking around his shop with all the other stuff it wouldn't be in good shape. Plus, I was concerned about ever getting paid. I won't be back until December. So, he called the woman and she came and paid it off and then he paid me off and the transaction was finished. Thanks for comment. P

  2. I think it's smart that you took care of it because a lot of times people put a deposit and don't end up following thru. You have to do what you need to do for your own financial reasons, I don't believe there is such a thing anymore as a public code of integrity, unfortunately too many people have destroyed that kind of public trust! Too many scammers, too many liars! It's a sad thing in our world, but it's a reality.

    1. Thanks for commenting. If I hadn't been planning on leaving for the States and if the woman hadn't said she would wait three weeks to pay for it, I might have waited. But not with a two month waiting period. You never know what could have happened to it in that long of a time in the store. P
