Sunday at the Chapala American Legion

Every Sunday from twelve to three in the afternoon the Chapala American Legion has a cook out. The men put hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. The woman make potato salad and beans. The price is three dollars. It is good food. I try to make it there on Sundays. My friends usually show up and it makes a fun afternoon. You don't have to be a member of the Legion to go to most of their functions. They have a yard sale day once a month where anyone can rent a table and sell things. They have dinners with live music fairly often. There is a little restaurant inside and they make great food for reasonable prices. It is open for breakfasts and lunches. Home made biscuits, yummmmm....

The American Legion is one of the main gathering places for North Americans and Canadians in Chapala just as the Lake Chapala Society is the central place in Ajijic. They both have libraries with books in English and bulletin boards. People advertise places for rent, things for sale, and services...I have my house sitting ad up in both places. I visit them often just to hear the local gossip.
