Looks like the rainy season has started early this year. Not even June yet and it is raining. Yesterday, it was gloomy most of the day. This morning is starting out the same. I know we need the rain but I am not a huge fan of this season.
There are many myths that float around Ajijic. One of them is that it never rains in the daytime during the rainy season. Only at night. This is just not true. It DOES rain during the day. I remember when there were ten days of overcast weather like it was yesterday and it felt like winter. So I am glad I may be taking a little vacation to the States next week.
Another myth: The water is dirty at the San Juan Cosala Spa on Mondays so don't go that day. Mondays are great at the spa because of this myth. Hardly anyone is there. I don't see that the water is any dirtier than on Tuesdays or Wednesdays or any other day. They often clean the round pool on Mondays but there are plenty of other pools to use.
Back to my, hopefully, upcoming trip to the States. I am supposed to go to Chapala to pick up my permanent residency card on Friday. If that actually happens, I will take a short trip up to the States to visit a friend. I was told that it would take me two months to get that card. Now it has been six months. So I am a little worried that it may not be there. Another myth: It only takes two months to get your permanent residency card.
My little downstairs casita is still for rent. It is only large enough for one person and no pets. This yard belongs to Chico..... I lived there for maybe eight years. Amazing that I lasted that long..... But the rent is cheap and I love the yard. There is even a fireplace. I bought lots of wood that has been drying for a couple of years now. Rent is only 3000 pesos a month, and that includes the electric. If you open your front door, you can often get wi fi. E mail me if you are interested. I will pass it on to the landlord.
I am amazed at the difference in immigration offices. The Manzanillo office had my card ready in two weeks (and that was with two days of closed office during semana santa). Yet, I hear of other offices taking months to issue cards. I wonder what causes the difference?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is because there so many more expats here? Thanks for writing Steve. p
DeleteI hope your trip to the sunny states does not include Portland. Still cloudy here, with rain.
ReplyDeleteJackB
Hi Jack, No, I am going to the other side of the country, North Carolina. That is, IF I get the permanent residency today. Thanks for sharing your beautiful daughter with us here in Mexico. She is a real gift. p
DeleteWell I think the weather has been amazing in Portland this Spring! We've had very little rain overall this year so I don't know what JackB is talking about. I live in the outskirts West of Portland and the rain comes and goes but it doesn't stay for days on end. It's been a grab back of hot sunny days down to cooler Springy sunny and some rainy ones. But the weather is great here right now in my opinion for the Portland OR area. I'm happy for you to be going to NC, it will be hot there and lovely for sure. Have a great time! By the way I don't know how you could live in such a small place all those years without a kitchen! I wouldn't be happy with that. I love to cook and entertain :) and I need big open spaces including being outside.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Pam in OR
Hi Pam, Good hearing from you again. I don't know how I managed there all those years either. Now I am living in a ONE room place, even smaller but I have two decks. That helps. p
ReplyDeleteI am happy for you if you are happy in your new place and feeling safe and better about the fence issue. I wouldn't like the stairs though, that would kill my knees! I would like being up from ground level as I would feel less vulnerable, but my knees wouldn't like it! I like the views too, that's a really nice plus. Hey you should rig up a dolly system so when you have stuff to lug upstairs you can just put it on the dolly and lift it up once upstairs. Like laundry and shopping bags or luggage.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea. But I don't know if I will be here much longer. It all depends on what my landlord decides to do. I may have to move again soon. p
DeleteOh well enjoy the new place for as long as it's your's. Whatever happens it will work out good for you I'm sure. I hope for the best for you once your landlord makes a decision. I sure hope he gives you ample time to relocate though if he ends up selling the place or whatever he ends up doing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your good wishes. I am really looking forward to the trip... p
