Almost Christmas and here I am in an entirely new situation. I have become a part of an extended family. All because my landlord is now staying home instead of going out all the time. His maid, instead of spending a few hours a week with him, is here everyday and she brings her children So, now what was once a quiet yard, is filled with the sounds of playing children. It is nice.

Today I decided to take the two youngest children to see The Story of Pi in 3D and in Spanish. It is just a short walk to the theater. I am looking forward to their excitement. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie with children. Years ago.  Many years ago. What a treat for me.

When I was younger, children were always part of my life. My last job was taking care of disabled children and adults in Northern California. That was over ten years ago. I am going to consider this afternoon with the children as my Christmas present to myself.
