Morning Thoughts

Today is the last of the Mardi Gras Parades. I am walking up to take photos with my friend Tammy. I don't know if my camera will work or not. I keeps coming up with Camera Error, and it shuts down.  This is my third camera. I wear them out. Next week Tammy is going to the States for a few days and picking up another one for me. If I can get some photos of the parade, I will post them in a day or so.

I spent a couple of hours at the doctor's office yesterday. I hate going to see the doctor and haven't been back since my thyroid surgery over a year ago. So everything is being done at once. UGH..... You can only be in denial about physical problems for so long.

The doctor kept repeating, "This is normal for your age".   He wants me to make a food diary for two weeks. That evening, after I came back home, I wrote an entire page of the foods I had eaten in just a few hours. Talk about denial, it is hard deny the truth when you see everything written down. I eat too much! But it is hard not to overeat here with all the wonderful restaurants and delicious foods.

I am off to the parade...... I hear the band now. HAPPY MARDI GRAS EVERYONE!

  1. Hope your day at the parade was fun and happy! Sounds like a nice event, so do you dress in costume for this kind of parade or just go to watch rather than participate? I would enjoy watching the children and dancing! I love dance especially native custom dances! Can't wait to hear all about it!

    1. Thanks for commenting. No I don't go in costume. I have lots of photos but have been offline for a few days. I will put them on in a day or so. p

  2. Hi Patricia, I feel for you, I need to lose some weight and it is just not happening! I suspect that the food in restaurants, although delicious, is cooked with plenty of oils and by your pictures has big servings of meat (which even when lean is fat laden and calorific). I think my strategy would be to have only 1 of those meals per day. But what does one do if you have 2 social engagements with food? Do they serve light fare at all?
    What is encouraging from your market photos is the lovely berries and fruits that would cost 5x here in the US. I could see just eating fruit until lunch time, similar to Michael Pollan from the NYtimes who is a vegan until 6pm then he scarfs anything he wants!
    There is a great book called Eat to Live which proposes eating mostly fruits veg and beans with minimal meat. I would love to say it works for weight loss but I am still a little plump! But it does make sure you get fiber to stop all those nasty colon cancers etc and a burst of nutrients...just think how may nutrients are in a bowl of berries or a chopped salad. Even lettuce is packed with nutrients. Some people regard the lowly iceberg lettuce or cucumber as being empty of nutrients but this is a distortion of truth (by those who market processed foods?) and there are all sorts of phyto-chemicals that scientists are only beginning to realize benefit us. Anyway, enough of my propaganda, I hope you can find a way to embrace those nutrient dense veggies and fruits and get to your ideal weight - good luck! Claire, Normal IL

Weight Watchers is the most doable eating lifestyle that has worked for me but like anything lifestyle you have to stick with it...nothing forces us to stay in control and my self control is my biggest enemy! My weight is beginning to cripple me badly now, today I can barely walk one of my knees hurts so badly from the osteoarthritis in it! Aging stinks! your friend pam

  4. Good luck with getting the pins out of your ankle. My mom had that kind of surgery. After it she never wore heels again.
