I have one like this in my front yard in Florida. Mine blooms only one night a year but there are other versions of it. It looks like a type of Selenicereus grandoflorus. Mine is called a Queen of the Night cactus or some around here say a "rope" cactus. I read your blog nearly every day and hope to be in Chapala soon.
I agree with Fran - it's some type of cereus cactus . I had a potted plant for a few years that was beautiful. Sorry to say, it got too cold where I stored it for the winter and the poor thing died. Cereus cactus. The most well known is the Night blooming cereus.
